What's it Like Holidaying in Egypt at the Moment?

After a break of over 2 years, at Egypt Escapes we finally managed to send some of our staff over to the land of the Pharaohs for a wonderful Christmas & New Year’s break! Here’s all you need to know to help give you an idea of what to expect if you are planning a trip to Egypt.

As fully vaccinated passengers, we just had to carry proof of this with us for the journey to Egypt. We did this via the NHS app and also printed paper copies as back-up. We also had to complete a very simple PLF which we did on the plane. Landing at Hurghada Airport, we met our rep at passport control and they were more than happy to help us with the Egyptian visas required and usher us through the priority desk and onto the luxury transfer coach within a few minutes.

Our first stop in Hurghada was for the 5-star all-inclusive Desert Rose Resort, which is a large, lively complex with lots going on at all times. The diving and snorkelling here was particularly good with an excellent reef accessible by the beach or from the jetty.

We then spent 4-nights at the Caribbean World Soma Bay. This too was an excellent, 5-star all-inclusive choice with a plethora of top class facilities. The beach here is particularly good with plenty of sunbeds available that are lapping the gentle waters.

On our trip we included a day trip to the wonderful ‘Venice of Egypt’ El Gouna, as well as visits to ancient Luxor and vibrant Cairo. The Luxor trip was by luxury coach which was a scenic 3.5 hour drive through the desert which included a half hour stop. For Cairo we opted for the ‘Cairo by Air’ option as it was a simple 1 hour flight from Hurghada instead of a 6-7 hour coach ride. All the way, our professional team of reps were there to assist at every stage which makes the travelling and sightseeing very simple and pleasant while being extremely rewarding.

When the time came to come home, the hotel helped us with the ‘fit to fly’ antigen tests required at the time. While we waited for the results of these we ordered our ‘Day 2’ PCR tests for when we got home and filled in the simple UK PLF. Since we have returned the ‘fit to fly’ has been scrapped and ‘Day2’ PCR tests replaced with much easier and cheaper lateral flow tests.

Our reps took us to Hurghada Airport and helped us with our bags and to check-in etc and we were sad to say goodbye to what was an amazing winter break.
